Pregame notes: Freddy, D-Rob, Joba, Aardsma
Freddy Garcia is not with the team, having gone on bereavement leave after the death of his grandfather in Venezuela. He is expected to be gone several days. The saga of Brett Gardner’s elbow strain, which has kept him off the field for 46 of the Yankees’ 55 games this season, continues. Gardner was supposed to play for Class A Tampa this afternoon but came up “a little stiff,” according to Joe Girardi, after playing in a game on Tuesday. So his activity was limited to taking batting practice today, after which, the manager said, “he felt very good.” Now, the plan is to fly Gardner to Charleston, where he is expected to play this weekend for the Class A River Dogs.
