Robinson Cano Surprises 13-Year-Old Fan Battling Leukemia
Robinson Cano has propelled the vastly depleted New York Yankees to the American League East leader. His fast start will help him in his negotiations when he becomes the most coveted free agent next year, but Cano wants to display that he is a franchise player that can also be a huge contributor off the field. Nick D’Annibale is a 13-year-old fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) so the MLB Fan Cave thought it would be a great idea for him to stop by and play some street baseball. During their game an ice cream truck interrupts play, but what happens next is much better than any Choco Taco. Out of the ice cream truck pops Cano, who is Nick’s favorite player. Nick not only gets to play baseball with the best second baseman, but also shares some ice cream. This is definitely the sweetest story. Article found on: Next Impulse Sports Continue reading →

What to Reid into the Yanks newest addition.
Yesterday the Yankees acquired versatile infielder Reid Brignac from the Colorado Rockies for cash. Yes, the Yankees have an obvious lack on infield depth with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Texiera and Kevin Youkilis currently calling the disabled list their primary position. Brignac is a career .228 hitter with a .294 OBP. In his six year career, he’s only amassed 769 career big league at-bats with the majority of those coming in 2010 and 2011 in which he had 590 abs in those combined years. To this point, with mostly limited playing time, Brignac’s performance has been underwhelming. However, his numbers compare to that of a current Yankee. Another Yankee player has a career batting average of .215 and a OBP of .288. This Yankee’s best years were back in 2009 and 2010. He also is a versatile infielder. Can you guess who he is? The answer is Jayson Nix. If Brignac could provide the same production Nix has, he may very well be valuable to the bombers until the team can return to full strength. Hope Continue reading →

Andy Pettitte’s Injury Will Truly Test Yankees’ Magic, As New York Can’t Afford to Lose Starting Pitching
Let’s see what rabbit the Yankees pull out of their hat this time, because Andy Pettitte’s trip to the disabled list will really test New York’s magic. The Yankees have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season, not because they’re winning, but because they’re winning with spare parts. The Bronx Bombers have been without many of their stars, including Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson, yet they’ve clawed their way to the top of the American League East. Those setbacks, while major, pale in comparison to Pettitte’s injury, though. The Yankees find themselves in first place largely because of their starting pitching, and Pettitte has been a big part of that. The overall numbers — 4-3 record, 3.83 ERA, 1.30 WHIP — aren’t eye-popping, but Pettitte has been very consistent with the exception of one outing. The lefty gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings against the Astros on April 29, but he’s allowed three runs or fewer in… Continue reading →

Hiroki Kuroda Dominates Jays Hitters, Leads Yankees to Victory
Hiroki Kuroda pitched dominantly in a 5-0 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Kuroda would work 8 innings, surrendering no runs while walking just 1 with 5 strikeouts. With the win, the New York right-hander improves to 6-2 on the season with a 1.99 ERA in 58.2 innings of work. Following a solid 2012 season with the Yankees (his first with the club after leaving Los Angeles) in which he posted a 16-11 record with a 3.32 ERA in 33 starts, Kuroda has pitched great this season and has cemented himself as the most successful starter on the rotation. Kuroda’s performance would help the Yankees maintain a one game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, with a 26-16 record. New York has won 7 out of their last 10 games and will face the Blue Jays on Saturday for the second game of a three-game series at home. Continue reading →

Yankees acquire Reid Brignac
The Yankees have made another move to add some depth at the big league level, as they have acquired utility man Reid Brignac from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for cash. Shortstop Alberto Gonzalez has been designated for assignment. Brignac, 27, represents versatility and a slight upgrade offensively from Gonzalez. In his career, Brignac has played shortstop, second base and the outfield. He spent five years with the AL East rival Rays, before being traded to Colorado in February. He was designated for assignment on Thursday, so the Yankees scooped him up. A lefty, New York hopes he can utilize the short-porch in right field. However, he is more known for his glove than his bat. This season, Brignac is hitting .250 with a homer and six RBIs. For his career, he is a .228 hitter. He is expected to be with the team for tomorrow’s series finale with the Jays. #Yankees acquire INF Reid Brignac from Rockies in exchange for cash considerations. Yankees put LHP Andy Pettitte on 15-day DL
Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte is being put on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left trapezius muscle in his upper back. General manager Brian Cashman said Friday New York is playing it safe with its 40-year-old left-hander, who becomes the Yankees’ 13th player to go on the DL this year. Vidal Nuno is being recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will move into a rotation already missing Ivan Nova. Pettitte feels sore but thinks that is from the severe spasms he experienced Thursday night against Seattle. He expects to return as soon as he is eligible. The Yankees did not place catcher Chris Stewart on the DL after he injured a groin Thursday night. An MRI was negative and Stewart said he was feeling much better. Continue reading →

Weird or what: On the same day, Scranton loses both "The Office" but Dellin Betances
Last night, Scranton lost it’s biggest tourist attraction after Chien-Ming Wang.It was to Scranton as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is to Trenton. Much like most of the Yankee prospects who have moved through Moosic, it stayed there about three years too long. Nevertheless, like Alberto Gonzalez pitching in the ninth, you had to watch. So… you missed it, eh? You were watching the Knicks or the Rangers or – gasp - The Mentalist. What happened? Well, not much. There were tears and speeches. It kept both heels pressed on the poignancy pedal. But the plot arcs ended happily. We were left – as Yankee fans often are – pondering a change, and we’re not sure in which direction it will take us. Of course, like Seinfeld, Cheers, Taxi, et al, this will go on forever in syndication. If you missed last night, no problem. It will keep replaying until the asteroid hits, and if the machines outlast us, it will keep replaying after we’re gone. But everybody in Scranton today kno… Continue reading →

Steinbrenner calls Yankees ‘scrappy’
One word which is never usually associated with the New York Yankees is “scrappy.” Powerful, favored, high-priced and sometimes maybe even underachieving are words more apt to be used in describing the makeup of the team. That was until Hal Steinbrenner referred to his team with the S-word in describing the depleted Yankees’ surprisingly success a quarter into the 2013 season and holding forth on his commitment to get the payroll below the luxury-tax threshold of $189 million for 2014. “I’m proud of them, my family’s proud of them,”said Steinbrenner following an owner’s meeting at Major League Baseball’s Manhattan headquarters Thursday. “They’ve been fighting hard all year long, and despite significant adversity, they’ve persevered. It’s fun to watch. They’re scrappy. Coming from behind, it seems like certain times in the past, it’s not something you had confidence in.” The Yankees are 25-16 and in first place, a game ahead Continue reading →
